Do It Yourself Microdermabrasion
Recap:
Performed in Spas and Doctors Offices
Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic non-surgical procedure for the treatment of facial scarring (such as mild acne scarring), improvement of the signs of aging (such as fine lines) and sun exposure, where the dead outer layer of the skin is slowly removed by using sterile aluminum oxide, micro-crystals onto the skin's surface to gently exfoliate the scale-like, dead skin cells and then the crystals are suctioned away to reveal a fresh, invigorated skin surface. Costs can vary. Approximately $75 to $220 and up per microdermabrasion treatment. Six or more treatments may be needed.
Performed At Home - Microdermabrasion Kits
You can do it yourself with microdermabrasion kits sold online, and OTC (over-the-counter) in many drugstores. There are many pros and cons about the quality and performance of microdermabrasion products, and prices can vary widely.
Some microdermabrasion products are complete kits including the battery-operated exfoliating hand held wand and foam applicators, and others may only provide the micro-crystal cream, a cloth, and repairing lotions.
Microdermabrasion products may not be suitable for people with sensitive skin, acne-prone skin, inflamed or pustular acne, broken skin, rosacea, sun damaged skin, skin infections, auto-immune disorders, dilated capillaries, keratosis, diabetes, people using blood thinners, accutane, retin-A, retinol, salicylic acid and glycolid acid, people with eczema, lupus, psoriasis or dermatitis, or any other condition you may have that you are uncertain about. Always check with your doctor before using an over-the-counter product you are not familiar with.
